CARLISLE CLASSICBOND® EPDM RUBBER
A high-performance synthetic rubber roofing membrane, providing long-term waterproofing for domestic and commercial flat and low-slope roofs.
We are fully trained installers of Carlisle ClassicBond® EPDM, a high-performance synthetic rubber roofing membrane designed to provide long-term waterproofing for domestic and commercial flat and low-slope roofs.
EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer and is a vulcanised synthetic rubber membrane renowned for its flexibility, durability and resistance to UV radiation, ozone, weathering and temperature extremes. Its ability to accommodate normal building movement makes it particularly well suited to flat roofing applications where long-term flexibility is important.
A Proven EPDM Roofing System
ClassicBond® is a non-reinforced EPDM membrane manufactured as a continuous rubber sheet. Unlike liquid-applied GRP systems, the waterproofing is provided by the EPDM membrane itself, installed using the appropriate ClassicBond adhesive and detailing system for the roof construction and specification.
The membrane is available in 1.2mm standard and 1.5mm premium thicknesses, allowing the system to be specified according to the requirements of the project.
Large membrane sheets can cover substantial areas with minimal field joints, helping to reduce the number of seams across the roof. Where joints, penetrations, outlets, upstands and other details are required, these are completed using the appropriate ClassicBond detailing and seam products in accordance with the manufacturer's installation requirements.
Flexible and Resistant to the Elements
One of the key characteristics of EPDM is its long-term flexibility. ClassicBond is designed to accommodate normal thermal movement and building movement without becoming brittle or cracking.
The membrane offers excellent resistance to UV exposure, ozone, ageing and extreme weather conditions, making it particularly suitable for the variable conditions experienced by UK roofs.
EPDM also remains highly flexible across a wide range of temperatures, helping the membrane maintain its waterproofing performance as the roof expands and contracts through seasonal temperature changes.
Cold-Applied Installation
ClassicBond® is installed using a cold-applied system, eliminating the need for gas torches and other open-flame application methods associated with traditional hot-applied roofing.
The membrane is installed over a suitably prepared roof deck using the appropriate ClassicBond adhesives and accessories. Correct substrate preparation is essential to achieving a reliable bond and long-term system performance.
Depending on the roof construction and specification, the system can incorporate deck adhesive, bonding adhesive, seam tapes, cover strips, primers, water-cut-off mastic and other manufacturer-approved detailing products.
Typical ClassicBond® System Components
A ClassicBond installation is made up of the appropriate membrane, adhesives and detailing components selected for the individual roof construction and installed in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.
- Prepared and suitable roof deck or substrate
- Appropriate ClassicBond deck adhesive where specified
- ClassicBond EPDM roofing membrane
- Bonding adhesive for relevant roof areas and details
- Purpose-designed seam tapes and cover strips
- Primers and detailing products where required
- Water cut-off and perimeter detailing components
- Specialist detailing for outlets, penetrations, upstands and edges
Suitable for New Roofs and Refurbishment
ClassicBond® is suitable for a wide range of domestic and commercial flat roofing applications, including new roof construction and refurbishment projects, subject to assessment of the existing roof and substrate.
Before installation, we inspect the existing roof construction and identify any areas requiring repair or preparation. The substrate must be suitable for the proposed system, with defective or unsuitable materials addressed before the EPDM membrane is installed.
The flexibility of the membrane and availability of purpose-designed detailing products also make ClassicBond suitable for roofs incorporating upstands, parapets, outlets, rooflights, penetrations, edges and other complex details.

Installed by Trained Professionals
The performance of an EPDM roof depends on more than the membrane itself. Correct substrate preparation, adhesive application, membrane positioning and detailing are essential to achieving a reliable finished system.
As trained ClassicBond® installers, we follow the manufacturer's requirements for installation and use the appropriate system components for seams, perimeter details, penetrations, outlets, upstands and other roof details.
Every roof is assessed individually before work begins so that the appropriate installation method and system components can be selected for the particular roof construction.
