CROMAR ACRYPOL FLEXIGLASS®
A flexible, liquid-applied GRP roofing system for new roofs and refurbishment projects, providing a seamless, fully bonded waterproofing membrane.
We are fully trained in the installation of Cromar Acrypol Flexiglass®, a flexible, liquid-applied GRP (Glass-Reinforced Polyester) roofing system designed for both new roofs and refurbishment projects.
Flexiglass provides a seamless, fully bonded waterproofing system that can be installed to suitable new roof decks or applied as an overlay to existing roofing substrates, subject to inspection and correct preparation. The system is designed to provide a durable and flexible waterproof membrane capable of accommodating normal thermal and structural movement.
A Reinforced GRP Roofing System
The Flexiglass system incorporates 225g/m² chopped strand fibreglass matting, which forms the structural reinforcement within the roof system. The fibreglass matting is saturated with catalysed Flexiglass resin and consolidated to form a continuous reinforced membrane, with the reinforcement positioned between layers of resin.
The system uses Flexiglass resin as both the base and finishing resin, with the completed build-up providing a hard-wearing, flexible and seamless roof surface.
Typical Flexiglass System Build-Up
Cromar's current brochure gives 1.7kg/m² total resin as the system figure, with the 225g/m² matting sandwiched between the resin layers.
Suitable for New Roofs and Refurbishment
One of the key advantages of Flexiglass is its versatility. The system can be used on a range of suitable roofing substrates, including existing felt, asphalt, concrete, cement-bonded particle board and OSB3 TG board, subject to the condition and compatibility of the existing roof.
For refurbishment projects, the existing roof is carefully assessed before any overlay work begins. The substrate must be structurally sound, clean and dry, with any defects, damaged areas, moisture or deterioration addressed before the Flexiglass system is installed.
Where an existing roof is suitable for an overlay, Flexiglass can provide a new seamless waterproofing layer without automatically requiring the existing roof covering to be completely stripped and replaced.
System Preparation and Application
Correct preparation is an important part of any Flexiglass installation. Depending on the substrate, this can include cleaning, removal or repair of defective materials, checking the condition of the existing roof and applying the appropriate Flexiglass primer.
The Flexiglass primer is designed to prepare and encapsulate suitable substrates and promote adhesion. Cromar specifies application at approximately 500g/m², followed by the reinforced resin build-up in accordance with the manufacturer's installation requirements.
The 225g/m² fibreglass matting is laid into the wet resin and consolidated to remove trapped air and ensure thorough saturation. Further resin is then applied to complete the reinforced waterproofing system and provide the required finished surface.
Flexible, Seamless and Rapid Curing
Flexiglass uses a flexible polyester resin designed to accommodate thermal and structural movement. Its liquid-applied nature allows the system to be formed around roof details, including upstands, outlets, penetrations, edges, joints and other complex areas, helping to create continuous waterproof protection.
Under suitable conditions, Cromar states that the Flexiglass resin can become watertight in approximately 40 minutes, with actual curing times dependent on factors including temperature and catalyst level.
The system is designed for application between approximately 5°C and 30°C, subject to the manufacturer's requirements and site conditions.
20-Year Manufacturer's Warranty
Cromar offers both 10- and 20-year material warranty periods depending on the application method, with the 20-year option shown in its current brochure — available subject to terms and conditions.
Styrene-Free System
Cromar specifically describes Flexiglass as styrene-free, setting it apart from many traditional polyester GRP roofing systems.

Installed by Trained Professionals
We understand that the performance of a GRP roofing system depends not only on the products used, but also on the quality of the installation.
Our Flexiglass installations are carried out by trained professionals using the specified Cromar system components and following the manufacturer's requirements for substrate preparation, priming, reinforcement, resin application and detailing.
Every roof is assessed individually before installation so that the correct preparation and system build-up can be established for the existing substrate and project requirements.
